Pondering the antique shops in Via dei Coronari next to Piazza Navona in Rome is a favourite past time of mine.  There are shops here that are full of gilded antique furniture, picture frames, old clocks and classic Louis XV and XVI styles that I adore.  Sometimes a makeover with fresh clean fabric coverings can clean up the look depending on the room, and I love mixing a bit of old with new if its done correctly yet the rustic red and slightly torn seat covering of a bateau sofa, a little bit of turquoise or red velvet with slightly flaking gilded timber framing is so charming more often than not so I think its best left untouched.

Also there is so much dark renaissance artwork in Rome, most people back home find it too dark yet I adore it.  One of my purchases when in Rome was of two old men playing the ukulele against a nearly black background with solemn faces, those that have seen it find it depressing, to me its beautiful, tranquil and I am yet to find the perfect frame for it.  I love the antiques in Rome and this street is full of little treasures. xmm
