La Loggia Restaurant at Villa San Michele in Florence

On a recent visit to Florence I was treated by one of our most beautiful hotels in Italy to an incredible 5 Star lunch at their ‘Loggia Restaurant’ located on the hilltop in Fiesole at the magnificent Belmond Villa San Michele

Arriving at this uniquely located luxury villa in Fiesole the feeling is surreal, taking in the atmosphere of the 15th Century Villa’s facade that is attributed to Michelangelo, and then the magnificent views over Florence and the Arno Valley stretched out below.. time seems to stand still.

Dine on the grand, arched terrace or in one of the historic rooms inside for private banquets, the Ristorant Antico and Cenacolo rooms are also magnificent.

Superb Tuscan cuisine, choose between the freshest whole fish filleted in front of your eyes, melt in the mouth carpaccio classico, home made pasta dishes, soups, delicate meats, vegetarian dishes and the finest wines all served on the beautiful alfresco Loggia terrace.

I highly recommend the antipasta to start with Buffalo mozzarella from Naples with San Marzano tomatoes, Apulian burrata with pear tomatoes from Abruzzo, mozzarella with cherry tomatoes, ricotta cheese from Mugello Valley and tasty extra virgin olive oil.  Or the home made spaghetti pasta served with Venus clams and squash blossoms.

For secondi (main course), the fish tartare of scampi, sea bass and salmon dressed with aromatic herbs and a Belon oyster, served with bruschetta with lemon-scented oil.  The charcoal grilled Florentine Chianina beef steak served with grilled vegetables for two also looked amazing.

I couldn’t resist the home made sweeties with a glass of limoncello to complete what was one of the most beautiful experiences that I have ever had at a restaurant in Italy.  Truly 5 Star!
