Paraggi Beach – Italian Riviera

Paradise on Paraggi beach in Portofino, Italy

It took me many trips to realise that Paraggi beach or any beach existed in Portofino, which I’d say is some of the most prime real estate on the Italian Riviera.  There are very few hotels all of which can very quickly take the credit card to its limit, and one of my favorite is a sister, Eight Hotels is one of two in Portofino with one in the heart of this tiny port and the other just a stones throw away, or a complementary hotel shuttle bus drive between the two.  This hotel knows how to indulge it’s guests, Hotel Eight Paraggi has a private beach with its outlook directing the eye straight over to Silvio Berlusconi’s holiday beach house, and the moment I knew who’s beach ‘shack’ I was looking out onto,  I knew this beach was something special, it’s heaven on earth and I can’t wait to get back to soak up the sun, atmosphere and beautiful views.

Gazing out to the left point is the Italian Prime Ministers holiday castle which looks out across the Mediterranean sea over to Dolce & Gabbana’s home, another of grand castles lining the waters edge in Portofino, this is luxury at it’s finest and I’m talking about just having the pure pleasure of stepping foot on the powdery Paraggi beach sand.

Being Australian and growing up on Sydney’s Northern beaches I am used to diving under crashing waves, having the sun down under sizzling hot and licking the salt from my lips.  Nothing makes me happier than discovering a new little sunny alcove, laying down a towel, and lathering up with sunscreen for a day on the beach.  Paraggi beach is so calm and tranquil, the right hand side is lined with true Italian narrow orange change rooms all featuring pointy little roof tops and stacked up against each other looking picturesque.

Just encase you need him, there is the very relaxed looking lifeguard who every so often stands up to sweep the sand around his deck chair and red umbrella ensuring that everything is even more perfect than it appears.  For its guests Hotel Eights restaurant serves fresh crisp salads and other tasty light meals accompanied by a crisp glass of Pinot Grigio!

Paraggi beach is small, chic and is truly paradise on earth if you are heading to the Northern Italy.

I can’t wait to return.
