All over Italy I have always tried to avoid the masses when dining out. Its a given if you follow the crowd to the water front or head straight to the town’s main piazza there is no doubt you will be sitting next to everyone and anyone aside from the locals who reside there. I’ve already posted on my favorite island to visit in Venice. Burano for the day or even just the afternoon is breathtaking, its peaceful in the backstreets and if you take a turn onto Strada San Mauro you will still find the side canal buzzing with explorers yet their stride takes a lazier pace and is easier to help sidetrack you. At the angle on Strada San Mauro there is a lovely little restaurant called ‘Viva Rosa Ristorante‘, the inviting typically Italian entrance is understated, there is a lovely little outside court overlooking the canal and the moment you step inside onto the slate floor with their warm timber beams floating up above you will feel like you never want to leave, it’s warm, inviting and they serve splendid wine from all over Italy. This is a tiny little restaurant so if you arrive earlier in the day make a booking or ask your hotel to do it for you, and don’t expect the service to be quick, just sit back and soak it all up with a glass of vino bianco. The food at Viva Rosa is typical Italian cuisine, the waiters look sharp, respond to a smile and if you feel like really turning this into a special romantic occasion you can book the tiny exclusive rooftop terrace for two.
