Dolomites: Cortina d’Ampezzo, Cinque Torri & Lake Braies – Private Tours & Day-Trips

Recognised as UNESCO natural heritage, the Dolomites now attract people for many different reasons, adventures, mountain sports, artistic inspirations or recreational time. The green and rich flora throughout the year adorns the horizon of the so called “Pale Mountains” and in the winter time the peaks are dusted with layers of white snow and wrapped in a mysterious fog.

Cortina

Cortina is certainly the most renowned destination of the province of Belluno, known as the “Pearl of the Dolomites” for the breathtaking mountain panorama as well as being one of the major resorts in the Alps. Cortina is surrounded on all sides by some of the most celebrated peaks of the Dolomites, such as (starting from the nearest) the Pomagagnon, Cristallo, Sorapiss, Antelao, Croda da Lago, the Averau/Nuvolau group, the Cinque Torri and finally Tofane, and – partly concealed by the latter – the Lagazuoi. Cortina d’Ampezzo is located just two hours north of Venice, and offers Italian-style winter sports and summer activities, with great food, plenty of socialising, sunbathing, great skiing and opportunities to stay in some of the most superb 5 Star Luxury hotels and luxury chalet rentals – luxury accommodation enquiries

Cinque Torri

Cinque Torri is the area around the Falzarego Pass and Giau Pass, this is one of the most picturesque in the Dolomites. Situated partly in the territory of the Natural Park of the Ampezzo Dolomites and bordering the Sennes and Fanes Natural Park, it offers numerous attractions: an unpolluted environment, hiking and mountain bike routes, and First World War museums. Some of the fiercest fighting of WWI took place in these idyllic mountains between the Italian and Austro-Hungarian troops. Now you can wander over 5km of restored trenches in an enormous open-air museum between Lagazuoi and the Tre Sassi fort.

Lago di Braies

Known as the “Pearl among Dolomite lakes” Lake Braies is situated in the homonymous Valle di Braies, which diverts from Val Pusteria between Villabassa and Monguelfo. This lake is characterised by its unique position in the north of the Fanes-Sennes-Braies Nature Park. Its geological origin is referable to a reservoir dam, the consequence of a mudflow. The emerald green lake became famous in Italy due to the Italian television series “Un passo dal cielo”.
