Discovering Tartufi & Friends

Tartufi & Friends Rome

On a recent stroll around Rome I stumbled across a delicious and delicate taste sensation.

Do you like truffles?

Personally I find it extremely difficult to bypass the word truffle or in Italian ‘tartufo’, so when I saw the word in a plural form above a door in a side street near the Spanish Steps in Rome I immediately entered drawn in by the wonderful scent floating outside the door!

Tartufi & Friends Truffle Lounge is full of delicate and simple yet full flavoured tasty food and a very delicious selection of wines.  When I walked inside it felt cozy, perhaps a little too cozy being on my own as it happened that day to be full of loving couples, its quite a small little dining space so very intimate, not really designed for the clumsy as the tables are very close together, you sort of have to turn side on to squeeze inbetween tables if you choose to sit on the bench side facing out, so rather than sitting on my own and having to be careful who I was listing to, bumping into or looking at in such close proximity, I chose to sit in the shop front at the narrow marble bar which was the perfect choice.

I wish I could have tasted everything on the menu yet opted for a glass of prosecco and a light selection of mini baguettes each with a different filling all made with some of Tuscany’s finest truffles.

Mini sandwiches with buffalo mozzarella and anchovies with truffles, parma ham, salami, salmon all with either a blend of different creamy truffle sauces, truffle honey or other mouth watering heavenly truffle blended products.

I struck up a conversation with the owner who endeavours to open more Tartufi & Friends Truffle Lounges in different cities around the world very soon, its a brilliant concept and surprisingly extremely fair prices too, plus you can also buy and take home with you their delicious fine products in jars.

Contact us at Italian Allure Travel for more luxury little dining experiences next time you are planning to visit the historical centre.  This was a great find and I am always updating my list for the latest new dining options in the centre of Rome.
