Villa Rufolo – Ravello

Villa Rufolo is a historic building in the centre of the hilltop town of Ravello on the Amalfi Coast.

Villa Rufolo Ravello

Like most ancient Villas and Palazzo’s in Italy, this thirteenth century villa used to be owned by the aristocratic Rufolo Family who were one of the wealthiest families on the Amalfi Coast at the time.

Entering the brilliantly manicured gardens there are also a number of buildings adorned with wonderful sculptures, columns and ancient towers overgrown with greenery.

Ravello is well known for its spectacular panoramic views along the Amalfi Coast, luscious gardens, historic monuments and the wonderful music festival that this hilltop town is known so well for.  Villa Rufolo plays host to the annual music festival held in the gardens starting in April through to the end of June each year, the location is simply breathtaking with the concerts taking place on the balcony of the amphitheatre. In the evenings the atmosphere is particularly impressive with the stage lit up, music playing and the sparkling lights glistening from the small local towns onto the Mediterranean sea below.

If you are heading to the Amalfi Coast for your 2014 holiday, perhaps you will be staying in Positano, Ravello at the wonderful Hotel Caruso by Orient-Express coming to our website soon, or another nearby town, I highly recommend visiting Villa Rufolo during the day to give you a clear perspective of the stunning location and the unbelievable views.

Ravello is such a special little town to stay or visit with local ceramic shops and some great little Italian restaurants in the buzzing Piazza and surrounding streets.

You can check out the Ravello Concert Society 2014 timetable HERE

Other luxury 4 and 5 star hotel recommendations are Palazzo Murat and Il San Pietro both in Positano.

Ravello is only a short bus or taxi ride up the hill and so worth a visit.
